"It (is) extremely rewarding and challenging to channel my passion via a statewide body, and inject my enthusiasm to 'keep Australia beautiful' into an effective and active team of people (who) can really make a difference to the amount of litter carelessly dumped into our precious country side and public open spaces." Taskforce Member Annabel Hinkley
In January 2005, the Keep Australia Beautiful Council of Western Australia (KABC) established the Western Australian Litter Prevention Taskforce. The Taskforce was established to set the strategic direction for litter prevention, and to raise the awareness and profile of litter in Western Australia. A key responsibility of the Taskforce is to develop and implement a state-wide litter prevention and management strategy.
The Taskforce comprises a Chairperson and 13 members. Mr Mel Hay, recently retired Assistant Commissioner of the Police Department, is the Chairperson of the Taskforce and members include representatives from the Beverage Industry Environment Council, Department of Education and Training, Department of Local Government and Regional Development, Swan River Trust, Department of Conservation and Land Management, Local Government Authorities, Lion Nathan Australia (The Swan Brewery Company), and also the community, including youth, sector.
The Taskforce meets on a bi-monthly basis and is serviced by an Executive Officer from the KABC. The Executive Officer provides administration support for the Taskforce and assists in policy development and implementation.
