Our Role - Industry Licensing and Regulation

The Environmental Regulation Branch of the Department has responsibility under Part V of the Environmental Protection Act 1986 for the licensing and registration of prescribed premises, licensing of controlled waste transporters, and administration of a range of regulations. The branch also monitors and audits compliance with works approvals, licence conditions and regulations, takes enforcement actions as appropriate, and develops and implements departmental licensing and industry regulation policy.

Legislation

The Department of Environment and Conservation fulfills its statutory licensing and regulatory role through a range of legislation. Primary licensing and regulation legislation includes:

  • the Rights in Water and Irrigation Act 1914
  • Part V of the Environmental Protection Act 1986
  • the Environmental Protection Regulations 1987.

Copies of the legislation can be obtained directly from the State Law Publisher's website.

Notification of fee increases - licensing registration and works approvals for prescribed premises under the Environmental Protection Act 1986

The Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC) recently undertook a review of the costs associated with the regulation of prescribed premises under the Environmental Protection Act 1986.

As a result of this review and its endorsement by Government, DEC will be increasing fees for licences, registrations and works approvals for prescribed premises.

Click here for details of the fee increases and the schedule for implementation.
