	Information for Industry


	The Department of Environment has a key role in the licensing and regulation of industry, and is currently undertaking a major program of industry licensing reform. A Stakeholder Reference Group provides advice on policy development and we work closely with all sectors to provide best practice guidelines and clear direction for a sustainable future. The guidelines, policies and other publications below are relevant to industry in Western Australia.

This document comprises a set of guidelines for protecting the values of native vegetation wherever fire is planned as a management tool. 	Aquaculture projects Size: 141kb Publish Date: 01-FEB-2003 08:10 AM These notes apply to premises used to propagate aquatic vegetation or commercially �farm� aquatic animals including fish, crustaceans, eg marron and shellfish in areas where terrestrial and estuarine water resources may be affected.

These reports are not available in PDF format but may be obtained from the Information Centre on request.

	Dewatering of soil Size: 189kb Publish Date: 01-AUG-2003 08:24 AM These notes apply to de-watering operations that draw water from groundwater seepage, excavations that intersect aquifers or run-off from storm events. The main purpose is to guide the environmental management of de-watering associated with construction sites, however aspects may relate to agricultural land drainage.

	Environmental Code of Practice for Poultry Farms in Western Australia Size: 677kb Publish Date: 01-MAY-2004 09:02 AM This Environmental Code of Practice replaces the WA Environmental Protection Authority�s Environmental Code of Practice for the Poultry Industry 1991. The Code is a fundamental point of reference to all industry members, planners, developers, government departments and members of the public interested in the poultry industries.

	Environmental Guidelines for New and Existing Piggeries Size: 43,562kb * Publish Date: 01-MAR-2000 08:56 AM The purpose of these guidelines is to provide information to industries, developers, local and state government agencies, farmers and the community on the legal requirements and environmental management practices for piggery operations (new and existing) in Western Australia. * This document is large in file size and could take considerable time to load. 	Environmental Guidelines for the Establishment and Maintenance of Turf and Grassed Areas Size: 646kb Publish Date: 01-DEC-2001 08:51 AM These guidelines provide information on environmental issues associated with the establishment and maintenance of turf and grassed areas, essentially for the Swan Coastal Plain. They highlight the environmental problems associated with inefficient practices and show the economic benefits that can be gained through environmentally sound management practices. This document is not intended to be a guide on how to grow turf.

	Environmental Management Guidelines for Vineyards 2002 Size: 243kb Publish Date: 01-JUN-2002 08:47 AM These environmental management guidelines are intended to provide guidance on the best management practices for the viticulture industry in Western Australia.

	Environmental Management and Cleaner Production Directory for Small and Medium Businesses (SCCP) Size: 1,086kb Publish Date: 21-APR-2005 09:13 AM This Directory lists State, national and international environmental and cleaner production guidelines for small and medium businesses. Local governments, industry associations, catchment groups, the Department of Environment (DoE) and other State agencies are encouraged to use this Directory to assist businesses to achieve cleaner production and adopt practices that protect the environment.

	Extractive industries within PDWS Areas Size: 141kb Publish Date: 01-JUL-2000 08:51 AM These notes apply to the establishment, operation and rehabilitation of extractive industries within Public Drinking Water Source Areas (PDWSAs) across the State.

	Floriculture activities in sensitive environments Size: 200kb Publish Date: 01-MAY-2003 09:02 AM Floriculture includes all commercially grown flowering and ornamental plants in greenhouse-based pots, trays, troughs, contained beds or in field settings. These notes apply to both new and established operations growing or maintaining plants within sensitive environments.
